Since it was first established in February 1954, San Bernardino Valley's mission has been to find and deliver water to supplement surface water and groundwater supplies in the most densely populated areas of San Bernardino County.  Over the past 70 years, San Bernardino Valley has encountered numerous challenges and successes, obstacles and opportunities as it endeavored to serve its mission.

In 2014, San Bernardino Valley celebrated its 60 year anniversary and commissioned a history book, Delivering the Future: 60 Years of Vision and Innovation to commemorate the occasion.  The book traces the district's past from its beginnings as an independent contractor to its current role as a collaborative regional leader and beyond.  A companion video was also produced featuring interviews and accounts by present and former San Bernardino Valley District managers and officials from water agencies throughout Southern California.
